On April 3, 2020 Transport Malta in its Merchant Shipping Notice 160 announced that the Merchant Shipping Directorate decided to defer the due payment date of the relevant Registration Fees and the Annual Tonnage Tax of merchant ships in cases when the anniversary date falls on or after 1 April 2020. The deferral period is of three months from the anniversary.
Above that, requests to issue renewal Certificates of Registry shall still be made to the Registrar (in accordance with the article 19(4) of the Merchant Shipping Act), accompanied by a request for the deferral of payment of the relevant registration fees and annual tonnage tax, where applicable.
